ETS3000 - Extractor and Tracker
VisSim’s Extractor & Tracker has been developed and improved throughout the years and under the toughest requirements from demanding customers like StatoilHydro – a Government owned Oil Company in Norway and Ministry of Defense in United Kingdom. Although the primary target is the VTS market, the Extractor Tracker is also used by makers of navigational equipment and is installed on close to 1000 vessels where more than 200 are navy and millitary vessels.

The flexible design of ETS3000 Extractor & Tracker is meeting the requirement of a range of different radar tracking applications:

  • Vessel Traffic Management Systems (VTMS), including
    • Sea Surveillance of installations like Oil Platforms
    • Port Surveillance
    • Coastal Surveillance
    • Surveillance of Military Firing Ranges
  • Ship borne tracking systems like ARPA
  • ATC, Air Traffic Control System for smaller airports
  • Special applications like:
    • Oil Spill detection, Wave height detection, Bird Watching, Rain Detection, Vessel Traffic statistics, etc

The ETS3000 Extractor & Tracker is the heart of VisSim’s VTMS, and it is closely cooperating with TS3000 Target Server with its multi-sensor tracker and TD3000 Traffic Display, which is displaying the target and radar video as overlays in an electronic chart.

ETS3000 - Extractor and Tracker
ETS3000 consists of several modules:

  • VEM3000 - PCI card is sampling analog video from the radar.
  • VP3000 - Video Processor is processing and filtering video and delivers to clients via network.
  • TR3000 - Tracker is detecting targets in the processed video

The Video Processor Software is receiving and processing the radar video from the radar (via VEM – Video Extractor Module. The result is processed radar video, which is sent to tracker, Service Display or other clients over the network.

One of the clients is the Target Tracker Software, which is doing all tracking calculations. The result of tracking is a target table, which is sent to all requesting clients, including the Service Display.

As a result, the Service Display or any other network client can display both targets and radar video.

VEM3000 - Video Extraction Module

The VEM3000 Video Extractor Module is designed especially with a focus on detection of smaller targets. Its sampling rate goes up to 120 MHz with an ADC resolution of 14 bits for radar video.

The system was developed with a focus on detection of small targets and operation in complicated clutter conditions.

The 3000 System has significantly high performance in severe rain and sea clutter conditions. The 3000 system is extended by several types of tracking masks and zones, which are improving performance of the system in areas where reflections and blanking areas are making problems for detection and tracking.

The system includes e.g. zones for “noise areas” where reflections/ghost echoes and other false targets are frequently experienced. Such areas will be configured with special detection algorithms. All tracking zones are controlled remotely from the Traffic Display and can be adjusted by experienced operators, if required.
